Hector De Pena, Jr.

October 13, 1943 ~ November 2, 2023 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Obituary

Hector De Pena, Jr., age 80, went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2023.  He was born on October 13, 1943, to Hector and Elena De Pena in McAllen, Texas.  He was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he graduated from Ray High School in 1961. One of his fondest memories from high school was playing in the marching band where he was often accused of “drilling for oil” with his trombone. After high school, he attended Del Mar College and then transferred to St. Mary’s University where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree and later his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law.  He began his law career in the private sector, but later found his calling in public service. For nearly three decades he served his community as an Assistant County Attorney, Assistant City Attorney, and Assistant District Attorney.  Finally, in 1986, he succeeded his father as Judge of County Court at Law No. 2, where he happily served for 16 years.

He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Hector and Elena De Pena.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 40 years, Linda De Pena, and their children Rocky De Pena (Lindsay) and Barbara Jo De Pena. He is also survived by his daughter Marie De Pena, and his siblings, Carla De Pena-Cook and Charles De Pena.

His family wishes to thank all the amazing caretakers who cared for him with such love, patience, and compassion in the final year of his life.
