Helen Dickman

Helen Dickman went to be with the Lord on October 21, 2019.  Helen was born on August 5, 1917 in Lillian, Texas to Frank and Martha Ann Cronkrite.  She moved to the Rio Grande Valley as a child, graduated from Weslaco High School, and attended Mary Harden Baylor for two years.  She was hired as the first office support staff for the Rural Electric Authority in the Rio Grande Valley. She married W.H. (Bill) Dickman Sr. on December 31, 1939.  They moved to Corpus Christi in 1949 where they raised their family.

Helen was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for her family and herself.  She learned tole painting, embroidery, making china dolls (including their makeup and exquisite clothes), and quilt making.  She was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for over 65 years. She thoroughly enjoyed each of her granddaughters and great grandchildren, often sitting on the floor to play even into her nineties.  She loved playing bridge with many friends.  

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. (Bill) Dickman Sr., her parents, and her two older brothers.  Helen is survived by her son, W.H. (Billy) Dickman Jr. (Lisa) of Houston; her daughter, Nancy Shropshire of Dickinson, Texas; her four granddaughters, Christina Tillinger and her children Hannah, Hailey, and Drew; Tara Hrbacek (Doug) and their son Jake; Lindsay Day (Jack) and their daughters Kelsey Ramos (Hunter) and Kylie; and Meredith Hood (David) and their children Crystal, Evan and Owen; and her daughter in law, Sharon Dickman. 

A memorial service to celebrate Helen’s life will be November 23, 2019 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas at 1:00pm.
