Helen G. Lingo, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. She was known to many as Helen Gene when double names were in fashion.
She was born in Harlington, Texas on July 26, 1929, the daughter of Eugene P. Lingo and Margaret Holland Lingo who preceded her in death.
Helen is survived by her brother Jack H. Lingo (Martha) of Houston, nephews Steven E. Lingo (Bruce) of San Francisco Co, CA, David W. Lingo (Gina) and great nephew Connor of Houston.
Helen’s early years were spent in Corpus Christi where she attended Menger Elementary, Wynn Seale Jr. High and Corpus Christi High School, graduating in 1946. Many friends from those years continued to meet monthly. Helen enjoyed those times until she was no longer able to attend.
She attended Hockaday School in Dallas and then Texas A&I, Kingsville earning a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education.
Teaching elementary students to love and excel in learning was a joy to her. She took great pleasure when former students kept in touch and thanked her for her caring she showed her students.
Helen volunteered to work at Memorial Hospital for several years. This led her to return to college and earn her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse for several years.
Helen and her mother enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. She wanted to continue traveling but her health declined after Mother’s passing.
Special thanks to her caretakers Irene McCarley, Myrthala Gonzales, Norma Clark, Martha Carrillo and Brianna Garcia for their love and care at the end of her life.
