H.G. Simpson

May 3, 1924 ~ June 28, 2020 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Obituary

H.G. Simpson, age 96, passed away on June 28, 2020. He was born on May 3, 1924 to Richard and Belle Simpson in Fulton, Texas. He graduated from Rockport High School in 1942. He was a Private First Class in the United States Army during WWII. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.

H.G. married his wife, Roberta, on February 3, 1955. They were married for 59 years before her passing. He was a loving and patient husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

H.G. will always be remembered for his patient love. He always made time for his family. He helped anyone that needed it and never met a stranger. He loved to garden, fix anything broken, and sit out on the porch. Only thing he liked better was when he got to do any of those things with his great grandkids. He frequently had “too much help” but he let the kids have their fun and cleaned up the mess after. H.G. had a funny saying for just about every situation. His songs were silly tunes that he made up, but we will cherish just the same. We all loved giving him a hard time and he enjoyed giving it right back. He was full of grace and humility. Although we will all miss him dearly, we will hold onto our memories and attempt to instill the same values into our future generations. God broke the mold with him, and we are blessed to have the example of a life well lived.

H.G. is preceded in death by his wife: Roberta Simpson; son: Lonnie Simpson; brothers: Dick and Les Simpson and sisters: Katy Lou Mundine, Charlotte Lee and Birdie Lee Cole. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Eric Ashmore; daughter-in-law: Cindy Grimm; granddaughters: Amanda (Chris) Tomlinson, Kimberly (Michael) Weisenberger and Erica (Jonathan) Shugart; grandson: Ryan Simpson and great-grandkids: Kaylee, Avery, Ainsley, Addison, Blake, Katie, Emily and Houston and numerous nieces and nephews.
