Obituary

Jacqueline Stewart Fisher was called home to our Lord on January 23, 2023.

Jacqueline was born January 1, 1938 in Brownfield, Texas to Beulah Bates Stewart and Craig Lionel Stewart. Jacqueline, nicknamed Jackie, was an only child. The family moved to Corpus Christi where Jackie attended schools in the Corpus Christi ISD. During her high school years at W.B. Ray High School, she was a cheerleader and she excelled in the classroom.

Jackie graduated from Ray and went on to Texas A&I in Kingsville (Texas A&M-Kingsville).  She was a cheerleader for the Javelinas as well as Lantana Lady.  Jackie enjoyed her college life and belonged to numerous clubs.

On a blind date, she met the love of her life and future husband, John B. Fisher III. After becoming engaged, John went to Fort Benning, Georgia for U.S. Army basic training and Jackie stayed in Corpus Christi and planned for the wedding.  They were married on August 17, 1958 and promptly drove out to Fort Lewis, Washington for his first tour of duty. While there, Jackie gave birth to their first child, Melissa. After completion of his obligation to the U.S. Army, Jackie and John traveled back to Texas where the family began to grow.  Martha, Michael and Margaret soon joined Melissa.

Jackie went back to college and got her degree in Education. She began a career at Northwest Regional Hospital in the Calallen area in 1977.  Jackie was the education director as well as the marketing director, Senior Friends director, Ladies Auxiliary Liaison and the community liaison for the hospital.  Jackie enjoyed the Senior Friends part of the job and took numerous trips with the group including trips to Ireland, Germany and Mexico. She retired in 2002

The Fishers acquired property on North Padre Island in 1993.  After some fixing up, they started a Bed and Breakfast known as Fortuna Bay Bed and Breakfast.  After an expansion, Jackie and John moved out to the island to live the island life.   They ran the business until 2015.  Jackie loved the condos.  She decorated, planted plants, greeted new friends and made all those who stayed at the B&B feel at home.  Jackie and John retired from Fortuna Bay in 2015.

Jackie loved to do crafts, sew, and travel. Her favorite mode of transportation was a cruise ship. Jackie and John enjoyed several cruises and hosted a 50th anniversary cruise to Alaska with their children and their families.

Jackie is survived by her children, Melissa Feinstein (Jeff), Martha Durham (Allen), Michael Fisher (Gail), and Margaret Sita (Paul), 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Jackie is preceded in death by her husband, John. B. Fisher, III, her mother, Beulah B. Stewart and her father, Craig L. Stewart.

A Remembrance Ceremony will be held August 17, 2023 for family and friends. Information to be available at a later date.
