Obituary
Janet T. Cram passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and we will all miss her dearly but know she is in a better place.
She was born November 11, 1933 to Dr. Joe Ellis Tyson and Mamie Daniels Tyson in Texarkana, Texas. She graduated from Texas High School in 1951 and enrolled in Sophie Newcombe College, a girls school affiliated with Tulane University. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi. This is where she met her husband, Jack Cram, who was attending Tulane Medical School. They met on a blind date January 1955, and Janet highlighted the evening by losing one of her contact lenses. Jack being very perceptive thought “This was truly a blind date.” The date was the beginning of their wonderful relationship. They fell in love and subsequently married August 16, 1957. This was the best thing that ever happened to Jack. Janet and Jack were inseparable and remained partners throughout their lives. She received her BA degree in Spanish from Newcombe College in May 1955.
Janet supported Jack his senior year of medical school, followed by four years of residency. She taught school for three years and then started work as a bank teller. Fortunately Janet was a great money manager, since they were living on her income. They started their family in New Orleans, Louisiana, Carol 1961 and John 1962. Then the Crams moved to Corpus Christi in 1964 and Marianne was born in 1965. Janet and Jack have spent the last 57 wonderful years in Corpus Christi.
She was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd, and active in several charitable organizations, The Good Shepherd Corner, Leukemia Society and Literacy Programs. She was a member of the Junior League of Corpus Christi, and served as President of the Patrons of de Pineda and also the Cottillion Club. Janet was known as a loving caring person, and actually never met a stranger.
Janet is predeceased by her son, John F. Cram, Jr.; and brother, Dr. Joe Ellis Tyson, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, John “Jack” F. Cram; daughters, Carol Kirkland (Alex), Marianne Roberts (Andrew); grandchildren, Katherine Campbell Roberts, Elizabeth Cram Kirkland, John Steven Roberts, and Meredith Russell Kirkland.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the following caretakers; Anna Hilario, Geneva Guerra, Elva Rosalez, Reyna Zapata, and Natalie Bruch with New Century Hospice. We also want to thank Dr. Pamela Smith and Gloria Olvera, RN. This group supplied outstanding care and were able to show love and compassion which comforted her during this last illness. We want to thank Reverend Milton Black for his spiritual and emotional guidance.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to The Church of the Good Shepherd or the charity of your choice.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
