Jeanne C Mayes

January 19, 1928 ~ December 19, 2020 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Obituary

Jeanne Cazassis Mayes passed away on December 19, 2020, at the age of 92. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1928, her family later moved to Greece where they spent the war years. Afterwards she moved to the United States and to Corpus Christi, where she became a US citizen in the 1950s. Around this time she began her career with CPL, and she worked there as a draftsperson for 32 years.

Jeanne joined the US Naval Reserves in 1964, and she served almost 20 units in the US and abroad over a period of 24 years. She was proud of her service, but also greatly enjoyed meeting new people and traveling around the world.
After her retirement from CPL Jeanne met and married Robert Mayes. They were married for 23 years.

Jeanne loved traveling, whether it was while working as a reservist, or visiting family for vacation in Greece. Later when she met Bob, she found a kindred spirit and travel companion, and they enjoyed taking vacations together. She liked being outside in general—in her earlier years she had enjoyed fishing, and in her later years she spent many hours outside working in her garden. She was also a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and she participated in their annual Greek festival over many years.

Jeanne is remembered for her quick wit, her humor, her strength, and her love for her family, friends, and pets.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, who passed away earlier this year.

She is survived by her sister Cleopatra Avila, her nephew Hector, her grand-niece Faith, as well as her stepchildren Darryl, Randall, and Kelly.
