Welcome to the memorial page for

Jerline N. Cox

February 18, 1931 ~ October 30, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Jerline (Jeri) N. Cox passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family on October 30th, 2017.
Jeri is survived by her husband John Andrew Cox; her children Larry (Carol) Cox, Barbara (Fred) Espitia, and John (Suzan) Cox and daughter-in-law, Debby (Sal) Alvarado; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Arlie; her siblings Sue Roe and Harold Newsome; and her son Mike.
Jeri was born on February 18th, 1931 in Clarksburg, Tennessee. She grew up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains playing jacks, picking cotton, and longing for a life beyond the farm. She moved to Memphis in 1948 in search of something better. It was there that she met the love of her life.
Jeri married John Andrew Cox on April 15th, 1951 because Elvis wasn’t available. Together they travelled across the country, living in Michigan, Alaska, Louisiana, and Tennessee. They settled down in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1964. Jeri raised her four wonderful children as a stay-at-home mother, instilling in them the country values and straightforward attitude that had carried her through life.
Jeri loved her family above all else and spent as much time as she could with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She taught them to be kind, to cook, and to enjoy each moment in this fleeting life. Jeri embraced every day and spent her free time engaging in her favorite activities: collecting cookbooks, playing bingo, and travelling as often as she could. She visited Europe with her friends and cruised the world’s seas with her family. Jeri cooked with the best of them (even beating Bobby Flay once – though Food Network has dropped the charges) and is best known for her pecan pie and her “real” chicken and dumplings.
The family wants to acknowledge and extend appreciation to Jeri’s caregivers who were at her side these last few months: Diana Moreno, Janie Zamora, and Jessica Martinez. These women were angels on Earth for Jeri during her final days. .
A Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
