Jerry Wayne Speed passed from his earthly life to external life with the Lord on May 22, 2022 with his loving family by his side, he was 84.
He was born on September 19, 1937 to Adeline Fromme Speed and Jimmie Speed in Yorktown Texas where he was also raised. He worked at a grocery store in Yorktown during his senior year where he met the love of his life, Gladys Leister. He graduated high school in May 1955 and married Gladys in October. He became employed with the USDA Poultry Division in Yorktown and relocated to Houston in 1959 where he resided with his family for 3 years. He then transferred to Corpus Christi in 1961 and began working at Corpus Christi Egg Company where he retired with 30 years of service. After a short retirement, he began work with Renfrow Printing and worked another 15 years.
Jerry was by no means all work no play. His avid love for the great outdoors was like no other. He fished; hunted and gardened whenever he could, which was practically every weekend and during his time off. He raised his children to love and respect the outdoors as much as he did. There were numerous camping trips, fishing excursions, hunting adventures and he even passed down his sausage making skills, techniques and recipes to all his family and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Speed and Adeline Fromme Speed; brother Alloyd Speed; son, Terry Speed and daughter, Lori Speed Schwabe.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Gladys Leister Speed; daughter, Darla Speed Schwabe; son-in-law, David Schwabe; grandchildren: Brandon Schwabe (Kala), Allison Schwabe Seideman (Michael), Colton Speed, Eric Jones, Justin Schwabe and Jordan Schwabe (Amanda); 6 great grandchildren: Ruby, Austin, Odin, Kyler, Leighton and Tanner; sisters: Jeannette Speed Sedlacek (Gerald), Marian Speed Ezell; sister-in-law, Claudia Crossland Speed; aunt, Jacqueline Speed Isenhour and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
