Jimmy Lee Mellard

Jimmy Lee Mellard, Sr. was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on December 26, 1947. He passed away on November 24, 2021 peacefully while napping in the afternoon.

Jim was a Christian and attended Travis Baptist Church for the last 20 years. He studied and lived by the Bible daily and was our reference for questions on any person, place or event in the Bible. He was our Family Prayer Warrior.

He is preceded in death by parents, Norman Mellard, Sr. and Lois Lorraine Garrett Mellard; brother, Norman Mellard, Jr. and best golfing friend, Daniel Funk.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gayle Morris Mellard who became his work partner at JM Electric Company. He and Gayle went to work together every day.

Also survived by brother, Kirk Mellard (Rebecca) and children, Jimmy Mellard, Jr. (Angela Farabough), Eddie Mellard (Kimberly Brice), Kyle Mellard (Kianta Pearson), and Travis Brand (Kathy Rodriguez Olmos); 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Dovie, Ethan, Leanna, Veronica, Selena, Michael, Kylie, Taylor, Xaiden, Jalon and Daisy. He was a GREAT Grandfather of 6, Shelby, Bailey, Bradley, Gordo, Richie and Elliana Marie. Jim said to always emphasize the GREAT!

Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jim joined the US Navy in 1969 and served until 1972 as an aviation electrician.

He established JM Electric Company in 1987 and was proud to hand it over to his oldest son Jimmy Mellard, Jr. in 2016 after 29 years in business. He was proud to be a small business owner and treated all customers and vendors with fairness and respect.

He was an avid golfer and in his semi-retirement enjoyed gardening of flowers and vegetables. He studied history and loved being outdoors visiting civil war sites and battlefields, hiking on the Skyline Drive and around Sherando Lake in Gayle’s home state of Virginia.

He is loved and will always be missed.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Funeral Service to be held at 12:00 p.m. that same afternoon. Interment to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
