American Veteran 04

John Ellis Brown

July 2, 1935 ~ April 18, 2022 (age 86)

John Ellis Brown, age 86, passed peacefully at home on Monday, April 18,  2022, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Born July 2, 1935 in Denver, Colorado to Thelma Mae and Clarence Charles Brown, John was a proud American and served in the U.S. Navy, retiring after twenty years of service having traveled the globe in service to his country.

John loved adventure and enlisted in the Navy at the earliest opportunity. He loved music…especially Country music…and was a talented square dance caller with the Portland Seagulls Square Dance Club. He also enjoyed tinkering and fixing things (“Mr. Fix-It”), beach body-surfing and never knew a stranger.

Following his Navy retirement in 1973, John had many careers, including Police Officer, Retail Store Manager and Law Firm Support, just to name a few. Finally “really” retiring in 2016, he and Sandy enjoyed their travels each Fall to Branson, MO to watch the changing of the leaves. A trip to the New England states in 2003 was one they highly cherished. Keeping his self-deprecating sense of humor until the end will always bring warm memories and smiles.

John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sandra Slough Brown, his sister, Cathy Velonis (Greg), his brothers, Charles “Chuck” Brown and Don Satter, his 5 children, Steve Ellis Brown (Lee Anne), Barbara Brown Milfelt (Tom), Elaine Brown (Troy), Jennifer Brown and Christopher Brown, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and his beloved fur-babies, Mr. Cooper and Penny, who all loved him and will always carry his memory in their hearts and minds.

Thoughts of John now with his Mom, Dad, brothers, sister and first-born son, Johnny, provides peace to those who are missing him.
