John Eric Hernandez

April 21, 1973 ~ January 9, 2021 (age 47) 47 Years Old

Obituary

John Eric Hernandez, 47, went to his heavenly home on January 9, 2021, after an almost 30-year musical career. A multi-talented musician, singer and songwriter, John Eric died of a sudden illness on stage doing what he loved best-singing to his beloved fans.

John Eric had many fans who appreciated his style of country music and who paid homage to him in many ways on social media and in news articles. He’s been described as having the voice of an angel; and many other compliments, such as “Best rendition of Purple Rain,” were repeated over and over. John Eric’s musical talent compliments were matched as many friends on social media described his repeated acts of kindness in helping them in their personal lives and in the music industry. John Eric had a unique style that some called Texas Country; and even though some would ask him to do other musical genres, he remained steadfast about what he liked and what he was known for.

John Eric is survived by his loving wife, Robin; his daughter, Catherine “Rylie”; and his sons, Andrew, Casey and Kolby; and his son, Ryan (Houston). He is also survived by his mother, Dolores (Pete) Gonzalez; his brother, Michael (Debbie) Hernandez; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his father, Fred Hernandez; his sisters, Ashley and Andrea Hernandez and Amber Contreras, all of the Rio Grande Valley. He was loved and supported by many friends, but most especially his dear friends, Irfan Kardas and Shannon Smith; and all of his beloved cousins in the Oliveira-Hernandez-Garza-Gonzalez-McCaskill clan.

Some of the many songs that John Eric published had to do with the untimely death of his sister, Cathy Lowe. Her early death was a pain that John Eric never got over. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Horacio and Delia Oliveira and his uncle, Horacio Oliveira, Jr.; his cousin and best friend, Stephanie Jade Barrera.
