John Milton Hand, age 89, passed away July 18, 2021. He was born on April 7, 1932 to John M. Hand and Dolores Nevergold Hand in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he was raised. John enlisted in the United States Navy, during the time of the Korean War, in the period of 1950 – 1954. When in the military service he was awarded with the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Ribbon (Two stars), the United Nation’s Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
John married his wife, Rose Marie of 69 years on June 18, 1952. He was employed by Reynolds Metals Co. for 40 years. John was a loving father and devoted husband. He enjoyed being with his family when he was off from work and during his retirement years he committed himself to the care of his wife. He will always be remembered for his love of joking and having fun, balanced with his detailed and serious nature. John enjoyed playing golf with family and golfing buddies, fishing, basketball, and coaching Little League and Youth baseball, doing yard work and home improvements. He was an active member in SOAR, Steelworker’s organization of Active Retirees. He was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and served as an usher/greeter at Saturday evening Mass for several decades.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie; parents, John and Dolores Hand; sister, Margaret Cameron; son, John Hand, Jr; great grandsons, Matthew Gabriel and Michael David Buhman and many other loving relatives.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Diane Addison (Bruce); son, Bill Hand (Suzi); son, Bob Hand (Deana); daughter, Laura Nasis (Edgar); daughter-in-law, Cecilia Hand; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Seaside Reid Chapel with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are sons and grandsons, Bill Hand, Bob Hand, Brian Addison, Andrew Addison, Michael Hand, Joshua Hand, Bradley Nasis and Nolan Nasis.
