Jon S. Blocker, age 70, went home to be with the Lord to his eternal home on January 16, 2021 surrounded by family. He was born July 7, 1950 to Jack and Patricia (Townsend) Blocker in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Jon was raised in Columbus, Nebraska, where he graduated from Columbus Sr. High School in 1968 and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1972. He was a natural athlete and became a gymnastic coach at the University of Nebraska and Southeast High School in Lincoln. He later moved to Corpus Christi, TX where he opened a gymnastics school and then pursued a career in law enforcement with the City of Corpus Christi as a police officer.
Jon was united in marriage to Nancy Hinojosa on May 29, 1993 in Corpus Christi and welcomed two stepdaughters. One of his greatest joys was family vacations along with his hobbies of restoring vintage cars, flying and golf. After 28 years of service to CCPD he retired to take on what he considered his greatest job – that of grandfather. He was a brilliant storyteller, had a wicked sense of humor and always lived life to the fullest. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jon is survived by his wife, Narcedalia (Nancy) Blocker of Corpus Christi, TX; his parents, Jack and Patricia Blocker of Lake Havasu City, AZ; stepdaughters, Michelle (Joe) Garcia of Corpus Christi, TX, Maisie (Abel) Gomez of Corpus Christi, TX; brother, Tom (Nancy) Blocker of Columbus, NE; sister, Leigh McLean of Lake Havasu City, AZ; grandchildren, Arielle and Arianna Garcia; Aidan, Avery, and Austin Gomez; nephews, Brooke Ihde, Greg Hermsen, Spencer Hermsen; and niece: Savanna Blocker.
Jon was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Clinton and June Townsend; Harold and Irene Blocker; his father and mother-in-law, Jose and Eulogia Hinojosa; uncle and aunt, Gene and Diane Townsend; brother-in-law, Colin McLean; infant nephew, Eric Scott Blocker; and cousin, Richard Townsend.
A memorial service will be held at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, TX on February 3, 2021. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M., followed by a memorial service at 7:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life will be held in Corpus Christi at a later date.
