Obituary

Jose “Pepper” Gonzalez, 62, born February 24, 1959 in Mcallen, Texas, was called peacefully to his heavenly home September 8th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Trinidad Gonzalez and his sister, Anita.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Irene, and Four children: Stephanie of Corpus Christi TX, Jose Jr. (Gilbert) of Mission TX, Jovan (Amanda) of San Antonio TX, and Jeremy (Ashlee) of San Marcos TX.

Seven grandchildren Victoria, Anthony, America, Raeanna, McKenzie, Easton, and Parker. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who he loved dearly.
Seven brothers and sisters, Harvey (Donna), David (Laurie), Pedro “Pete” Gonzalez of Corpus Christi TX. Humberto (Yolanda) of Portland OR, and Antonio “Tony” (Mary) of Aurora IL. Sisters Linda and Sandy (Freddie) of McAllen TX.

Pepper was mostly remembered as the lead guitarist for the Tejano band, La Sombra for more than 20 years. For the past 10 years Pepper has been touring with Pio Trevino Y Magic band.
In 2014, Pepper was inducted into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame for a career that spanned more than four decades, beginning in 1985 as an original member of La Sombra.
In 1995, Pepper came to know the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and Savior. After taking a short break from the music industry to grow and learn more about Jesus, Pepper dedicated his time to serve and minister as the lead guitarist for the Praise and Worship band at The Church of Acts.
He was an avid fan of Chicago sports teams like the Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and White Sox. He also loved to watch Golf and listen to all genres of music. Music was Pepper’s passion and first love. He poured everything he had into his music and used his guitar as an instrument to express himself. He had a big humble heart and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. that same afternoon at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Immediately following the services please join the family at The Courtyard at Gaslight Square (1002 Sante Fe St. Corpus Christi, TX 78404) for a continued celebration of Jose “Pepper” Gonzalez’s life.
