Jose Murillo Lopez

Jose Murillo Lopez, age 87, of Corpus Christi, TX passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. He was born on January 27, 1933 to Benito and Ursula Murillo Lopez. He attended Corpus Christi High School and was drafted into the service. Jose served as a Corporal in the United States Marines. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He returned to Corpus Christi, TX and earned his GED and Associates in Business from Del Mar College.

Jose married, Yolanda Lara, on February 9, 1958. Together they built a legacy of love of family. Jose will be dearly remembered as “Papa Joe”. Papa Joe put God first and was a long-time member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Papa Joe enjoyed his family above all and loved spending time at the River Lot fishing and barbequing. Holidays, birthdays and attending his grandkids school functions were important and special to him. He loved working on his yard and took pride in it. He will be remembered as a loving husband, caring father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Benito and Ursula Lopez; brothers: Ruben Lopez, Robert Lopez and Manuel Lopez; sister: Petra Lopez; son: Mario Lopez and daughters: Ursula Ortiz and Laura DeLeon. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 62 years: Yolanda Lopez; sons: Joseph (Araceli) Lopez, Gerard (Melissa) Lopez and Marcos (Dalia) Lopez; his grandchildren who also have fond memories: Jareth Vasquez, Amber DeLeon, Alex Ortiz, Megan Lopez, Corynne Lopez, Rebecca Faz, Cody Lopez, Lindsey Lopez, Adriana Reyes, Maxwell Ortiz, Ilyanna Lopez, Albert Nunez, Audrianna Lopez, Mallory DeLeon, Ayden Lopez, Artimuxs Ortiz and Madison Lopez; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Seaside Reid Chapel. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Seaside Reid Chapel. A private Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
