Joyce Bethany, age 100, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning July 7, 2018 at her home in Kingwood, Texas. She was born April 11, 1918 in Crockett, Texas to Alice Luticia and James Calvin Mann. She graduated from Crockett High School in 1936. She married Edgar Hasie Bethany in 1941. They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1954. Joyce and Edgar adopted their first son John Edgar in 1953 and then James Harry in 1956.
Joyce was always very involved in her sons’ activities and volunteered in the public schools. She sold World Book Encyclopedias for many years. She was fortunate to have five grandchildren, Rachel Bethany, Jon Marc Bethany, Jared Bethany, Baylie Bethany DeJean, and Blake Bethany and four great grandchildren, Kai, Kason, Bridge and Brynley.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Edgar in 1998, her sister Nina Ruth Leache in 1988 and her oldest son John in 2005.
She is survived by her son, James and his wife Wendy Bethany
She is also survived by loving family and close friends, Karen and Craig Stoever, Tim and Yvonne Hawthorne, Klair Grace, Kirk and Karen Michael, Gina Menzies, Philip and Haylie Plant and their children Ellison and Reagan, Ty and Marlana Hawthorne, Jennifer Nguyen, Brad DeJean, Tyra Bethany, Kate Remmick and Paul Bethany.
Joyce was a active member of Morgan Avenue Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas for many years. In 2007 she moved to Cypress Woods Retirement Community in Kingwood, Texas to be close to family. She enjoyed knitting baby blankets, newborn booties, caps and tea cozies. She also loved playing cards with her friends Norma Patton and Pat Kramer. But most of all she loved reading her Bible. Joyce always enjoyed visiting with family and friends and sharing stories of her past. Because of her strong faith in Christ, she was a positive influence on all those she met.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
