Welcome to the memorial page for

Joyce Hibbs

August 21, 1926 ~ September 4, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old
Johnnye Joyce Claer Hibbs, 91, went to be with her Lord on September 4, 2017. Joyce was born on August 21, 1926, in Electra, Texas. Her parents were Johnnie W. Claer and Lola Corder Haynes Claer. Joyce graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School in 1943.  She attended Hardin Jr. College.  She married the love of her life William R.
“Bill” Hibbs on November 21, 1944.  She and Bill were stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas. While Bill was in the Army overseas she spent her time working in Wichita Falls as a telephone operator.  When he returned home, she and Bill made their home in Wichita Falls where they raised their two children, William R.“Bill” II, and Kristen Gayle.

Joyce prided herself in being a homemaker, and in being her family’s biggest cheerleader.  She sat through many dance and piano recitals, frigid football games, and sweltering little league baseball games. She took great interest in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Some of her fondest days were sitting in the bleachers cheering her husband’s little league baseball teams. She loved to watch the Texas Tech Red Raiders (especially Tech football and women’s basketball), the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers.

In 1969, they were transferred to Snyder, Texas. There she became active in the Newcomers Club where she learned to play bridge and made many lifetime friendships.  She was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church.

Joyce and Bill were married for 57 years before he passed away. Joyce moved to Corpus Christi in 2008. When Joyce became ill in 2016, she made her new home at the Mirador Senior Living Community in Corpus Christi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.  She is survived by one brother, Tom Claer and wife, Margie, of Wichita Falls; sister-in-law, Doris Perry of Ft. Worth; son, William R. “Bill” Hibbs II and wife, Vickie, of Corpus Christi; daughter Kristen Gayle Lake and husband, Garry, of San Angelo; four grandchildren: Melissa Lake of San Angelo, Brent Hibbs of Temple, Jeffrey Hibbs and wife, Haley, of Abilene, and Brian Lake of Lubbock; Nieces: Linda Gunter and Meloney Folsom; Nephews: Kyle Claer, Kurt Claer, and Rodney Claer; Great Nieces Jill Varrichio and Reisha Moraine; and Great Nephew Daron Gunter.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Crestview Memorial Park Chapel in Wichita Falls, Texas. Entombment is to follow.

The family sends our sincere appreciation to the Mirador nurses and staff who looked after and took care of Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, MDA, or the charity of your choice.
