Karen Burda Byrum

Karen passed peacefully from this life on January 17, 2021 after a long and difficult battle with COPD. Although she left this world to soon, Karen will be remembered as a strong woman of faith, who lived selflessly for her family and friends. Karen grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and was the daughter of Fred and Betty Burda.

Karen and her brother Mark became owners and operators of the family business, Burda Motor Co. and Gulf Coast Finance. Together the two have continued their father’s legacy and served their community for over 65 years. Karen was more than a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. She was a kk, a mimi, a confidant and a best friend. Her favorite pass times were spent caring for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They were the delight of her life and she enjoyed then up until the very end.

Karen was known for always opening her home to others and hosting birthdays, get togethers and the famous Sunday roasts. Holidays were her favorite. They were a chance to have family, friends, and good food and laughter permeate throughout her home. She was the light and guardian angel of her whole family.

Karen is preceded in death by her mother and father, Betty Lou and Fred Burda, and her brother Steven Burda.

She is survived by her son Jarret Byrum, his wife Linn Byrum and two children Paige and Dylan; her son Jody Byrum and his son Dalton and her brother Mark Burda and his three children Allison, Brad, Kathryn.

Visitation will be held 12 pm Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Seaside Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 pm Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Seaside Chapel. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Due to COVID-19 seating in the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel is limited to 65 persons, at a time.
