Lee Paine Baskin, age 99, passed away in her sleep at home July 13, 2021. She was born on January 22, 1922 to U.S. Army Sgt. Major Alden Paine and his French wife Yvonne Henriette Aubert in her hometown of Ville de Croissy-sur-Seine south of Paris. Lee's mother died shortly after her birth and she was taken back to the United States where she was raised by her father and stepmother in his hometown of Worchester, Massachusetts.
Her brief service in the U.S. Navy WAVES in World War II took her to Corpus Christi where, in 1946, she met and married Charles Leroy Baskin. They were married for 68 years until Leroy's death in 2014 at the age of 98.
Lee was a lifelong gardener, birdwatcher and animal lover, happy to rescue and care for any lost creatures she found, from dogs, cats and cocktails to iguanas. She looked forward to the family’s summer hiking and camping outings from Padre Island or the Big Bend to the Colorado Rockies. She also passed along her love of the outdoors as a Cub Scout and Brownie leader for her children’s troops.
Lee is survived her three children: daughter, Yvonne and her husband Michael Gilpin of Bozeman, Montana; son, Charles L. and his wife Margaret of Arlington, Texas; and daughter, Barbara of Redford, Texas; two grandchildren, Michele Baskin of Washington, D.C.; Bryan Baskin and his wife Beth of Arlington, Texas; four great grandchildren, Abigail, Isabelle, Isaac, and Jaelyn of Arlington, Texas; and nephew, Morris H. Baskin of Austin, Texas.
