Obituary

Lilia Peña Cook, age 43, passed away on November 6th, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She was born October 11th, 1978 to Robert and Janie Peña in Blue Island, Illinois. Lili was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and attended Tuloso-Midway High School. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her master's degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on May 15th, 2004. She enjoyed teaching at TAMU-CC for several years before leaving the workforce to focus on her family and her artistic endeavors. Lili married her husband of 18 years, Frank Cook, on September 6th, 2004 after a courtship which began in November of 1999. They met while both attending Del Mar College, where she began her path of helping students while working at the writing center. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Lili enjoyed traveling, writing, reading, listening to and playing music, creating jewelry and crafts, tending to her succulent garden, and more than anything, spending time with her family. She will always be remembered for her quest to live life to its fullest in every moment, her love of music (whether it be The Monkees, The Cure, Bob Dylan & The Band, Elvis, or local artists), and her ability to dance whenever (and wherever!) her spirit moved her. Her smile and zest for life brightened the room wherever she went. Lili had a fierce devotion to her friends and family and an everlasting desire for justice in the world.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband (Frank Cook); daughter (Marchesa Cook); mother (Janie C. Peña); father (Roberto Peña Jr.); brother (Roberto Peña III); sister (Lavinia Yates); grandmother/nana (Elva Garza); many aunts, uncles, and cousins; countless friends; Frank's family (who loved her dearly); and our work “family” at B&J's Pizza. A special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Post Acute Medical for their care and compassion, both for Lili and her family.

An online memorial service will be held at 1p.m. on Sunday November 21st at https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1637112376148620.
