Linda Oreta Makelki, age 72, passed away on November 13, 2018 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born in Abilene, Texas, to Melvin and Totsie Montgomery and resided in Corpus Christi for most of her life. Linda married Daniel Peter Makelki in June 1970. They made a number of moves due to job transfers between Corpus Christi, Victoria, Lawton, and McAllen and finally settled back in Corpus Christi. Linda worked for Mercantile Bank, Yorktown Baptist Church, Incarnate Word Academy, Gregory-Portland ISD, and Cameron University. She was also a sales consultant for Avon and Mary Kay products.
Linda was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her husband, sons Steven (wife Robin) and Jonathan (wife Maura and grandsons Blake and Ryan), and brother Melvin Guy Montgomery (wife Joyce).
Linda was very creative and was an active member of the American Sewing Guild who held several board offices. She was a fifty-two year member of Beta Sigma Phi, with whom she reached the highest degree of Torch Bearer. She also had the honor of being a founding member of the Portland Chapter of Preceptor Kappa Lambda. She played Bunco and Mah Jong, through which she developed many new friendships. Linda loved to cook and bake sweets for her family and was famous for the peanut brittle she made for Christmas gifts. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Team Mom for sports, and PTA volunteer.
Linda’s friendships were very special to her, and she was quick to provide advice over long phone calls, always wanting to help in any way possible. Her favorite color was red, which she sought in the clothing she wore and the vehicle she drove.
The family thanks Doctor Glenn Bugay, Doctor Emile Salloum, and their staffs for assisting Linda as she valiantly fought cancer through the years. The family also thanks her friends who were by her side and helped support her the last couple of years.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi, TX. A Memorial Service will follow at 4:30 p.m.
