Pastor Luis Rolando Cabrera returned to his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 2, 2021. Pastor Luis Rolando was born on January 13, 1953 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1988 and settled in Corpus Christi where they felt led to begin their ministry. As they settled into their new home in Corpus Christi, Pastor Luis Rolando fell in love with the city and its people. He dedicated his life to serving the city that they now call home. He became an ordained minister from Mision Cristiana Maranatha in San Antonio and over the next few years, he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Theology and his Master’s degree in Divinity from Vision University of California. In 1994, he and his wife Magda Cabrera established Iglesia Cristiana Maranatha Corpus Christi, and have been a vital part to the heart and soul of this city, serving both the Spanish & English speaking communities. In 2018, Pastor Luis Rolando and his wife oversaw the transition of the church they lovingly built to a new name with a revitalized mission, Hope Church Corpus Christi.
Pastor Luis Rolando Cabrera was, first and foremost, a man of God. He would spend countless hours digging into the Word of God to learn everything he could so that he could help lead his congregation and his city into the arms of Jesus. Pastor Luis Rolando was a beacon of hope and goodness in the city of Corpus Christi. His deep connection with the Holy Spirit and his knowledge of the Word of God encouraged many people to rely on him to spread the wonderful news of Jesus both in Corpus Christi and with many other churches around the world. Apart from his passion for people, Pastor Luis Rolando enjoyed activities with his friends and family that include fishing, racing, cars, and motorcycles.
Pastor Luis Rolando Cabrera had a heart set on God, and through God, he also had an intense devotion to his family that can still be seen in his family that survives him. His passion for Jesus blessed him with a loving wife, Magda Cabrera, two children, Luis Fernando Cabrera and Lucia Cabrera Palmer, their spouses Alejandra Cabrera and Scott Palmer respectively. He also has five grandchildren, Emma, Cecilia, Josiah, Claire and Elena. Pastor Luis Rolando loved his wife, kids and their spouses immensely, but there was a special place in his heart and soul for his five grandchildren. Through his devotion to God and his family, he showered his grandchildren with love and peace that is known to very few. We are forever grateful for the love he showed his family. While we are saddened by the earthly loss of our Husband, Father, Grandfather and Pastor, we know that Luis Rolando Cabrera is in a place full of love, grace and mercy and we know we will see him again.
