Margaret Walberg, age 83, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on September 10, 1931. Margaret graduated from the University of Texas at the age of 19. She married her husband on July 28, 1951. She was a Charter Member of the Key Study Club. One of Margaret’s passions was the Old Nueces County Courthouse which she fought to have restored.
Margaret has served the community as President of the Art Center of Corpus Christi, Auxiliary to the Art Museum of South Texas, Friends of the Courthouse, Inc. and the Nueces County Historical Society; and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Oriental Cultures. Margaret was bestowed with two preservation awards from the Texas Historical Commission for her efforts in preserving the 1914 Nueces County Courthouse and for submitting the nomination of the Broadway Bluff Improvement to the National Register of Historic Places. She also initiated the concept of, and secured the funding for the historical and environmental sculptures in the Sculpture Garden of the Nueces County Courthouse.
Margaret is preceded in death by her brother, Leslie Giddens, sister, Kathryn Bennett and sister-in-law, Frances Giddens.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wesley Francis Walberg, two sons; Mark Wesley (Gretchen) and Leslie Philip (Dena), grandchildren, Jennifer Tankersley (Chad), Angela Ford (Carl) and Matthew Pierce; two great grandchildren; Brandon Ford and Maylyn Rose Abers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 5, 2015 at Seaside Funeral Chapel with Gloria Lear officiating. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
