Maria M. Cavazos

Maria Cavazos, age 88, passed away on April 13th, 2022.

Maria was born on April 28, 1933 to Eleuterio and Emilia Mata, in Laredo Texas. She married her husband, Pedro, in 1955 and moved to Chicago, IL where they started a family. They returned to Texas where she worked at A&M Corpus Christi, in the art building, for thirty one years. 

Maria was a very devoted wife and mother to her four children, as well as an incredibly loving grandmother, and great grandmother. Her fierce dedication to her family, great wisdom, and industrious nature are traits that will forever be an inspiration to her family. She loved to celebrate and decorate for holidays and family gatherings. She was masterful at cooking, sketching, crochet, and making you feel loved and welcomed, in her warm presence. She taught her family so much throughout the generations, about faith, love, and hope. She was quick with a witty retort and had a remedy for anything that ailed you. She prayed the rosary daily, and asked for the intercession of her heavenly Mother, Our Lady of San Juan, to whom she had a special devotion. 

She is preceded in death, by her dear husband, Pedro Cavazos, Jr,  and her eldest daughter, Sally Galvan.

She is survived by her sister, Gloria Gonzalez; her children, Peter Cavazos, Ruben Cavazos, and Patricia Muñoz; her son in law, Richard Galvan; grandchildren, Jennifer Galvan Irigoyen (Lorenzo) Melissa Correa (Paul), Gabrielle Estringel, Matthew, Jaclyn and Christopher Muñoz; two great grandchildren, Allison (Jim) and Sister Mary, P C.C. (formerly Abigail Irigoyen) and her great-great grandaughter Bernadette.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church with an Entombment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
