Maria Belen Fernández, 92 died peacefully on April 28, 2021. She was born on January 5, 1929 to Juan Olivo Orozco Perez and Victoriana Lugo Perez in Donna, Texas, were she was raised.
She graduated from Donna High School in 1948 and attended Del Mar College. Belen was a recipient of a scholarship to Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas.
Belen married her husband, Conrado M. Fernández of 36 years, where she met him in Brownsville, Texas, at Charro Days. She was employed by Corpus Christi Independent School District.
Belen enjoyed volunteering. She will always be remembered for her service in the community. She was devoted to her church, Kelsey Memorial United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Methodist Woman’s Group.
She served as PTA President of Chula Vista Elementary and was also involved with the PTA for Cunningham, Jr. High and Moody High School. Belen also dedicated time and enjoyed being a leader for the Camp Fire Girls. Our mom was a camera buff, she loved filming and taking pictures of all our special events. We have many special memories to cherish forever.
Belen is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Conrado M. Fernández; and her son-in-laws, Roland Paul Buhidar and John Edward Prezas.
Left to cherish her memories are her sister, Alicia Perez Garza from Washington State; her daughters, Cynthia Lee Gamez (Randolph), Sandy L. Prezas and Mary Beth Buhidar and her son, Conrad M. Fernández, Jr. (Anna); grandchildren, John Carlos Prezas and Jared Edward Prezas, Randolph Cary Gamez, Tamera Victoria Gamez, and Victoria Paige Buhidar, Kelsey Rose Buhidar, and Ashley Victoria Sauceda; great-grandchildren, Hunter Blake Prezas, Jared Alexander Prezas, Cambryn Jade Prezas, Savannah Marina Prezas, and Charlotte Patricia Prezas; and Noah Hinojosa, Jace Hinojosa, and Jody Hinojosa.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Seaside Reid Chapel. A prayer service will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Service will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Kelsey Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 1610 Comanche St. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are; Jared Edward Prezas, Hunter Blake Prezas, Jared Alexander Prezas, Daniel Rodriguez, Mariano Fernández, and Bale Fernández.
Special appreciation to our sister, Anna Marie Fernández. As well as Lupe Rodriguez and Mandy Garza, for the love and care of our mother.
