Maria Elva Laurel

Maria Elva Laurel, age 87, passed away on April 23, 2018. She was born on May 17, 1930 to Gregorio Zamora and Elvira Rios in Penitas, Texas. She was raised in Penitas, Texas and graduated from La Joya High School in 1948. Maria Elva married her husband, Dionicio Laurel, on November 25, 1951; they were married for a wonderful forty nine years.
Maria Elva Laurel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.
Maria Elva enjoyed participating in church and family activities. She will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, friends and God. She was a member of the Altar Society of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Eucharistic Minister and in various quilting clubs. She also enjoyed traveling.
Maria Elva is preceded in death by her husband, Dionicio Laurel and son, Saul Laurel. Left to cherish her memories are her brother: Alejandro Zamora, sister: Edelmira Smith, children: Homar and Anita Laurel, Oscar and Jeanie Laurel, David and Dianna Laurel, Ruben and Lorrie Laurel, Rene and Tricia Laurel, daughter-in-law: Annette Laurel, grandchildren: Cynthia Laurel, Sandra Laurel, Amanda Clark, Scott Laurel, Bryan Laurel, step-grandson, Brian Bartlett, Danna Altiok, Emily Laurel, Andrew Laurel, Erin Laurel, Kaliegh Laurel, Anzli Laurel, Canyon Laurel, Italy Laurel and great- grandchildren: Matthew McDaniel, Kamryn Smith, Alexis Laurel, Talon Laurel, Oliver Clark, Alistair Laurel.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Having the distinguished honor to be pallbearers are: Brian Bartlett, Rene Trevino, Matthew McDaniel, Canyon Laurel, Brian Laurel and Andrew Laurel.
