Obituary
Maria Elena Perez, age 98, passed away June 3, 2022. She was born on March 28, 1924 to Julian Garcia Sr. and Guadalupe Cantu in San Benito, Texas. Maria married her husband of 58 years on April 27, 1946.
Maria Elena will be remembered for her wonderful cooking, especially the delicious tamales and bunuelos during the holidays. She was an excellent seamstress making most of her two daughter’s dresses and even their petticoats. Maria’s favorite hobby was crocheting, she will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Martin R. Perez, daughter, Myrtle Torres, father, Julian Garcia Sr. and her mother, Guadalupe C. Garcia. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Julian Garcia Jr., sisters, Emma Garcia, Eva Garza and her great grandson, Robert Nombrana Jr.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Belinda (Mel) Sanchez, granddaughter, Kim (Bobby) Nombrana, grandson, Rudy Torres Jr., brother, Francisco (Soyla) Garcia and sister, Evila Garcia. Maria is also survived by three great granddaughters Alex, Samantha and Kassie (Alex) Nombrana; three great grandchildren, Julian Castillo, Lexi Castillo, Xavier Nombrana and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00am on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at St. Helena of the True Cross of Jesus followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30am. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Rudy Torres Jr., Gilbert Sanchez, Teodoro Dona Jr., Bobby Nombrana, Rick Attebery, and Mel Sanchez Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Janie Cage and Josie Campos.
