Mary T. Caldcleugh

October 1, 1930 ~ January 18, 2023 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Obituary

Mom passed from this life into the presence of her beloved Lord on Jan. 18, 2023, at the age of 92.  Generous, enthusiastic, smart, creative, hospitable, loving God, always so supportive of her family, cheering us on and defending the underdog, she had a giving heart. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother, Mary was born in Austin, Texas. She grew up in Texarkana, Texas, the third child of Albert Elvin and Edna Easters Tabb. She met her lifelong love, James Donald (Jim) Caldcleugh at the University of Texas in Austin and they were married in April 1952. In 1968 Mary returned to Library School at UT in Austin where she earned a Masters Degree in Library Science. She worked for the Corpus Christi Public Libraries first as a Reference Librarian and later over Collection Development until her retirement in early 1997. Her beloved Jim preceded her in death on February 6, 1991.

Mary is survived by her three children: Jane Caldcleugh Pata Galeppi from Buenos Aires, Argentina and her husband Julio Galeppi; Jim Caldcleugh from Atlanta, GA and his wife Susan Bourke Caldcleugh; and Julie Johnston from Corpus Christi, TX; five grandchildren: James Scott Caldcleugh and Neil Caldcleugh from Atlanta; Christian Pata and his wife Cristina from Chicago and Andrea Pata Barreto and her husband Javier in Florida, and Stacia Johnston from Corpus Christi; 10 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Mary left a legacy of faith to her family and children and marked the lives of many over the years through her loving, generous spirit of faith.  In the long, descending walk through the emotionally and physically rough and draining waters of dementia, the Lord showed his favor to Mary surrounding her with loving, caring friends and family all along the way.  She has now made it to the finish line and is at rest, whole and happy in the presence of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, awaiting Resurrection Day where we will all be reunited forever.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the staff at Brookdale Northshore in Portland, Texas, and all the companion care though Personalized Living who so tenderly and lovingly took care of Mom, going above and beyond the extra mile. Also our deepest thanks to Altus Hospice and Harbor Hospice.
