Born in Gonzales, Texas, Mary Ellen Rivera Longoria passed away on December 5, 2018. She was a member of Corpus Christi Cathedral for many years and was devoted to our Blessed Mother of Guadalupe. Mary attended Northside Junior High and W.B. Ray High school, where she enjoyed her days as a cheerleader, student council President, FHA President, and a member of the Ray choir.
She worked for CCISD for 32 years and met many wonderful people whom she always admired and learned from.
But of all things she did in life, being a mother and grandmother were the greatest joys of her life. Having the family all together was truly what made her the happiest. She instilled her respect for education and law enforcement in everyone she loved, and to Mary, traditions were the glue that kept everyone together.
She credits her mother with teaching her to earn an honest dollar, sacrifice to reach your goals, provide for your loved ones, and love unconditionally.
Preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Elida Martinez Rivera, and Anselmo (Blackie) Longoria, her first husband of 35 years and the father of her children. She is survived by her beloved son and daughter, Daniel and wife Sylvia (Daniel Jr. and Kaylee Elyse) and Judy Ann Longoria. Mary is also survived by her sister Mary Jessie (Ralph) Ramirez, and two nephews, Tony Jr. and wife Sandra (Tony Alexander and Ashlyn Felicity) and Eric Saldana.
