May 19, 1939 ~ April 9, 2024 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Obituary

Mary J. Postgate, 84, passed away April 9, 2024. She was born May 19, 1939 to Doris and Eli Joe in Grand Junction, Colorado. Mary studied Business Administration at Bakersfield College before serving as Manager of Pacific Orthopedic Medical Group, where she later retired.

Mary was a long-standing, vested member of the Elks Lodge 226 in Bakersfield, CA and served one year as Exalted Ruler. She married the love of her life, Major John W. Postgate, Jr. on September 27th, 1969 in Washoe County, Nevada. Together they shared 7 children, 27 grandchildren, 51 great- grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter who is expected in July of this year. Though theirs is a blended family, Mary loved and accepted all of their children as her own. As the wife of an Officer, Mary was given opportunities to travel, which she loved. Together they lived on many military bases throughout the United States and in Okinawa, Japan.

Mary is survived by her husband, Major John W. Postgate, Jr. and her 7 children: Don Beed and wife Carrmon, John Postgate and wife Jenny, Juile Alexander and husband Mike, Mark Postgate and wife Kara, Jennifer Desanto and husband Steve, Skyler Postgate and wife Carlene, and Beverly Alexander and husband Neil.

Mary is preceded in death by her two infant children, Becky and Tiny along with grandson, Hunter Postgate.

Mary will be remembered for being the light of any room she was in. A welcoming soul, Mary knew no stranger and once you entered her home, you became family.  Mary had a way to make everyone around her feel welcome and loved. She had an infectious personality which you could not help but want to be around. Mary enjoyed doing crafts and was known as an accomplished quilter who lovingly made a quilt for each of her grandchildren. She owned a doll store in Bakersfield, CA and was a very talented doll maker.  She would often take her granddaughters Nicolette and Lauren into her shop and let them make their own dolls to take home. Mary also enjoyed collecting items such as anything Disney, elephants and clocks.  Mary cherished family time and was a devoted Christian.  Most of her Sundays were spent in church and she did her best to live by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
