In 2002 she served as the president of the WASP Association. The Commemorative Air Force in Ingleside was named the Maxine Flournoy Third Coast Squadron CAF in her honor in 2004. In March of 2010, she traveled to Washington D. C. to accept the Congressional Gold Metal in recognition of her role as a WASP in the military.

Maxine was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Alice, Texas and later First Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. She and her husband loved entertaining at the family Lake home in Carmel Hills on Lake Corpus Christi and Flournoy Park in Alice, Texas. Maxine also hosted annual groups to the Bill Gothard Institute of Basic Life Principles when the Christian ministry came to San Antonio every summer, providing hotel and meals for hundreds of friends and employees over the course of many years.
