High-spirited, strong-willed and independent, Nan departed from this life on Saturday, October 7th, 2017. She victoriously flew to heaven when God called, leaving cancer behind and defeated. She was 55.
Nan was born on June 1, 1962 in San Antonio, Texas, and was raised in Pleasanton, Houston, Tulsa, and Corpus Christi. A good student, she was outgoing and athletic, participating in softball, cheerleading and drill team. She attended Richard King High School and then lived in California for several years before returning to Texas and settling in Austin.
Nan was a loving, devoted mother to her three children – Arielle, Stephen and Bobby D’Andrade, and took great pleasure and joy in her four grandchildren. She will be remembered as a thoughtful, generous person whose care and nurturing of loved ones eclipsed any pain, worry or self-concern she may have felt – even in her final days. The grace and strength Nan displayed during the treatment of her cancer was remarkable and admirable, and her family is grateful for her example.
Besides her three children and four grandchildren, Nan is survived by a brother, Tommy Rowell of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and a sister, Cindy Govett of Dallas, Texas. Nan is joyfully reunited in heaven with her parents, Gretchen Walker Selby and Thomas David Rowell lll, and grandparents Mary Jo & Galloway Selby and Ruth & Thomas D. Rowell Jr. The family would like to thank Dr. Sausan Abouharb of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for her skilled, compassionate and loving care of Nan during the past three years. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21st, 2017 at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Nan’s memory to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
