Patrick Joseph Kotzur

November 19, 1949 ~ September 8, 2023 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Obituary

Patrick Joseph Kotzur went to be with the Lord, September 8, 2023, at the age of 73. He was a man of principle and a man of God. He always led by example.

Patrick served in the United States Marines. While serving as a Sergeant in the Marines from 1969 to 1973, Patrick was deployed to Vietnam as a 7011 and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. He was proud of his service and his country. He continued to show his love and support for his fellow servicemen and women, both home and abroad, with his prayers.

Patrick and his wife Benigna were married 45 years. They were a most attractive couple. Patrick was a devoted husband and his love for Benigna was always apparent. They danced together in the kitchen and were the very example of true love and commitment. Together they raised five daughters.

Patrick was a family man. He loved his girls. Some of his bravest moments were on a boat with all five daughters, very young, all casting hooks and lines with wild abandon.  He was always patient and happy to teach them things. Patrick was the definition of the best girl dad.

Patrick was his happiest on a boat fishing with his brother David. He loved teaching his grandchildren how to fish and barbecuing for the family. He was a perfectionist and made the best barbecue, chicken and dumplings, potato salad, charro beans and chicken molé.

Through his daughters’ eyes it was amazing seeing him go from the best dad to the best grandfather anyone could ever ask for. He loved throwing his grandchildren up in the air and hearing them say, “higher Papa higher”. Even once they got too heavy to carry he still mustered up the strength to throw them in the air once more just to hear their laughter and see their smiles.

Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Elias Kotzur, father-in-law Rogelio Trejo, and his grandson, Michael Joseph Salas.

Patrick is survived by his beloved wife Benigna and his daughters: Lia and her husband Timothy Lange, Sara, Patrisha and her husband John Livingston, Rebekka Isom, and Joanna and Jonathan Barrera.  His 14 grandchildren, Michaela, Grayson, Maia, Leah, Hailey, Johnny, Logan, Finnley, Oakley, Madelyn, Jonathan Jr., Macie, Jace, and Jalena. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Joe Trejo; brothers, Arthur, David, and Gary and sisters, Dianne, Margaret, Theresa, and Susie; along with numerous nieces and nephews who he loved very much.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Kotzur, Jimmy Bledsoe, Timothy Lange, Michael Salas, John Livingston, Johnny Livingston, and Jonathan Barrera. Honorary pallbearers are Grayson Salas, Jonathan Barrera, Jr., and Logan Livingston.

Patrick will be missed beyond words and his memory will be eternal.
