Surrounded by his children, Ramon Briones, 75, was called home to Jesus on November 8, 2023. He was born on February 28,1948 to Santos and Amelia Briones in Robstown, Texas. He graduated from WB Ray High School in 1966 and Texas A&I University - Kingsville in 1970.
On November 30, 1973 he married Irma Aguilar, and together they raised their four children in Corpus Christi, Texas. Married for 47 years, they dedicated their lives to their family and found great joy in becoming grandparents.
For 31 years, Ramon worked for the Texas State Department of Human Services. Upon retiring his passion for language and literature led him to the classroom to teach middle school English for CCISD for several years.
Ramon was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered as being kind, reserved, yet always thoughtful, and providing a sense of calm and peace to his family. He was a man of strong Catholic faith and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. On Sundays, his children would receive a Gospel summary and reflection with words of encouragement to turn to their faith in good times and times of trouble. Ramon found great joy in sports; golf, basketball, and football being among his favorite pastimes and events he enjoyed most with his children. He was also an avid reader and held great appreciation for classic literature and the more modern government/international thrillers. As a loving husband and father, he was profoundly proud of his wife and children. Together, they encouraged their children to study, to work hard, and to always help those less fortunate. He was very protective and incredibly patient. Above all, he adored being “Pop” to his grandchildren, who he lovingly referred to as “the babies.” This stage in his life was truly golden. A week before his passing, he was able to view photos of his newest grandson. The joy on his face and in his heart was immeasurable. He was also thrilled and thankful to God for the expectant arrival of another granddaughter in the spring.
He is preceded in death by his parents Santos and Amelia Briones, his brother Daniel A. Briones, his sister Janie B. Cantu, and his loving wife, Irma A. Briones.
He is survived by his children; Ramon Briones, Jr, Yvonne Briones Neves (Jeff), Roger Briones, Eric Daniel Briones (Mackenzie); His grandchildren; Samuel Eric and Emma Margaret Neves, James Luca, Eric Paul, and Henry Scott Briones. He is also survived by his sister Maria Elena Briones, and brother Jose Briones, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Aftab Mahmood and his nursing staff at Oncology Consultants, along with Del Cielo Hospice who provided such compassionate care and support during the last few weeks of his life.
