Obituary
Lifetime Democrat, union man, organizer and volunteer, Ramon (Raymond) G. Ovalle, age 85, marched down his final road on July 13, 2021. Ramon was born on June 16, 1936 in Bishop, Texas to Salvador and Rosa Ovalle and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Ramon started as a meat cutter with Biels Grocery and then Kroger where his lifelong journey as a proud union man began. He was employed by the UFCW for 33 years before his retirement. Ramon was very active in the community, a Nueces County Democrat and delegate, Texas Democrat and delegate, member of the Democratic National Committee, Mexican American Democrats, Tejano Democrats, Election Worker, Ballot Board Election Official, a Founding Father of the United Latinos of UFCW, Coastal Bend Labor Council, AFL-CIO, Texas AFL-CIO, LULAC, LCLAA, Corpus Christi Barrios Association, Lifetime member of the American GI Forum of Texas and longtime volunteer for the Corpus Christi Police and Corpus Christi Firefighter Associations.
Ramon will be remembered for his faith in God, love of laughter, love and devotion to his family and for his undying effort in fighting and standing up for his community and the people of Nueces County.
Ramon is preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Rosa Ovalle and the mother of five of his children, Carmela Munguia.
Left to cherish his memories are his children Raymond M. Ovalle (Laura), Edward M. Ovalle, John Ovalle, Richard Ovalle, Belinda Ovalle Gutierrez (Abel), and Jason Ray Ovalle (Natalie); grandchildren, Leon John Ovalle, Danielle Owens, Luna Ovalle, Anastasia Ovalle, Juliet Ovalle, Jason R. Ovalle, Jr., Namine Ovalle, Link Ovalle; great-grandson, Drew Canales; sister, Guadalupe Zamudio and several nieces and nephews.
Immediate family visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. A public viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be held that same evening at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services immediately following.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Edward M. Ovalle, Richard Ovalle, Jason Ray Ovalle, Drew Canales, Abel Gutierrez and Ralph Zamudio.
