Obituary

Robert Austin Keeney, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024, in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 65. Born on September 15, 1958, in Corpus Christi, TX, Robert was a man of integrity, kindness, and an ever-present willingness to lend a helping hand.

Robert graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1977, and went on to earn Associate's degrees in electrical engineering and liberal arts from Del Mar College. His professional journey was marked by dedication and excellence. He spent 18 years with AEP/CPL. Following his tenure there, Robert became a residential real estate appraiser, which led him to establish his own successful appraisal business, A+ Appraisals and Real Estate Services. For the last year, he worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Special Adaptive Housing Agent where he facilitated the modification of veterans' homes to accommodate their disabilities.

In addition to running his business, Robert shared his knowledge and experience by teaching real estate courses at Del Mar College for over seven years. His natural ability to communicate and educate made him a respected figure among students and colleagues alike.

Robert married the love of his life, Vicky Rae (Rogers) Keeney, and together they celebrated 35 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. He was a devoted father to his children, Shannon Rae (Keeney) Ricker and her husband Mitchell, and Shawn Robert Keeney. As "Peepaw" to Watson Robert Ricker and Brody Mitchell Ricker, he cherished his grandchildren deeply and loved nothing more than getting to watch them play, learn, and grow.

His hands were rarely still and he was the family's "Mr. Fix-it," always ready to tackle any project or repair. As an Eagle Scout, Robert's love for the outdoors was profound. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and dove hunting, and he spent the last couple of years focused on beautifying his yard with trees and flowers. His adventurous spirit took him on road trips to over 40 different states, experiences that he treasured and often recounted with vivid detail.

Robert's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and the pursuit of knowledge. His unwavering support and guidance left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His presence was a source of stability and comfort, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert William Keeney and Ruth Marie (Austin) Keeney. His memory will be forever honored by his loving wife, Vicky, his children, grandchildren, and the countless friends and colleagues whose lives he touched.

Robert Austin Keeney lived a life that exemplified the values he held dear - family, education, and service to others. His spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his contributions will resonate for years to come. As we say goodbye to a man of great character and warmth, we celebrate the enduring impact he made on the world around him.
