Ron Chiles departed this earth for his eternal home on September 30, 2018, being 74 years and 30 days old. Surviving him in death is his wife of 54 years, Dottie, 2 daughters, Kim Chiles and Kellie Williams, and Son in Love, John Williams, of Corpus Christi. He leaves behind 2 adorable grandchildren, Maddie and Andrew Williams, and sister, E.J. Abbott (David) of New Braunfels and many cousins, nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Edrie May and Nola Barnett Chiles and an infant brother Sammy.
Ron graduated from Roy Miller High School and attended Del Mar College and Texas A&M Kingsville. He was employed by the Department of Defense and retired in 2005.
Loving the water in all aspects, Ron was a sailor and sailed his own boat HOMEFREE, TOO to many destinations including across the Gulf of Mexico to Florida. Ron served as a Past Commodore of the Bay Yacht Club.
Since retirement he has served as a Port Chaplain visiting the many ships coming into the Port of Corpus Christi from around the world. He often joked that you can stay at home and be a missionary as the world comes to the Port of Corpus Christi.
A Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, at 11:00 AM at the Yorktown Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. In lieu of flowers, Ron had requested that donations be made to De Koning Ministries, 5009 Bromley, Corpus Christi, Texas 78413.
