Rosa Villarreal Quintanilla

Rosa V. Quintanilla, age 96, passed away at her home in Corpus Christi on Monday, July 9, 2018.  She was born on September 4, 1921 to Crispin and Amelia Villarreal in McAllen, Texas, where she grew up.  She graduated from Theodore Roosevelt Elementary and attended McAllen High School.  In October of 1938 she married her husband Concepcion (Chon) G. Quintanilla at Sacred Heart Church in McAllen.  They were married for over 60 years until the death of her husband Chon on December 26, 1998.  Rosa and Chon were the parents of Maria Elva, Noe Ricardo (Richard), and Rene Alejandro.  All three adult children survive their parents.  Elva Barrera-Martinez, wife of Lyonso (Lee) Martinez, resides in Corpus Christi.  Noe Richard and his wife Nancy Ann Newkirk live in New York, NY.  Rene A. and his wife Karen Brown-Quintanilla live in West Sacramento, CA.  Rosa is survived also by her younger sister Maria Santos of McAllen, Texas.  Her younger brother Gilberto Villarreal, older brother Vicente Villarreal, and older sister Tomasa (Tomi) V. Barrera preceded Rosa in death. Rosa leaves four grandchildren.  They are Eric Barrera (wife Kim) of Corpus Christi, Debra Barrera (husband Jon Hopson) of Houston, Christina Quintanilla currently residing in Gothenburg, Sweden, and David Quintanilla of West Sacramento, CA.  She also leaves four great- grandchildren: Kaden, Koby, Kyle, and Kirsa, children of Eric and Kim.  Rosa will be missed and remembered affectionately by her nieces and nephews and family friends.  She was much loved by her care givers the last years of her life for her kindness, wonderful personality, and great spirit. Rest in peace, Mama Rosa.  Those who knew you loved you very much.
