Roy Gale Wendland peacefully passed away on the evening of December 8, 2018. Papaw, Papsie, Paps, Ace, aka Gale was born October 17, 1937 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Papaw had a heart as big as Texas and his biggest love and pride was his family. He had a jovial sense of humor with an ever-present sense of optimism (unless the Cowboys were losing). He was a self-proclaimed food and restaurant expert. Nothing made him happier than a good, tasty meal. His stamp of approval would be “this is the best I’ve ever had”. Papaw was always up for a good game of pool, dominoes, or any other game that involved strategy. His clever skills and witty comebacks made him quite the entertaining competitor. Through his empathetic manner, he passed on his love and appreciation for nature and animals.
Gale was preceded in death by his father, August Joseph Wendland, Jr., his mother Velma Lee Shirley Wendland, brother Bobby Lee Wendland, and granddaughter Charisse Nicole Wendland.
He is survived by his wife of almost sixty-one years, Nancy Belle Wendland; daughters Cindy (Richard) Threadgill, Lisa Krejci, and Lori (Kevin) Waters; grandchildren Nathan (Lynn) Threadgill, Kevin (Joan) Threadgill, Kelsey (Hunter) Myrick, Ashley (Jerry) Lee, Kirsty Krejci, Kaylyn (Kyle) Muscarello, Kade Wendland; great-grandchildren, Jase, Haidyn, Beau, Sienna, and Scarlett.
Visitation with the family will be held Monday, December 10, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Seaside Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
