Obituary

Ruth Fullilove Krumrey

Corpus Christi - Ruth Fullilove Krumrey, a Christian woman, entered unto her Heavenly Birthday on Saturday, August 10, 2019, as she turned age 94 . She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana August 10, 1925 to her parents Mary Shirley Barbin Fullilove and Jacob Foster Fullilove.

Raised in Houston, Texas from the 1930s, Ruth was a child of the Great Depression generation, and knew the value of work and endeavor. As a teenager, she earned twenty-five cents an hour at Weingartens Grocery Store and later graduated from Southwestern Business School in 1942. Ruth entered the business world at seventeen working as a secretary for Sheffield Steel.

At a USO dance, Ruth needed to get her pass from her high school girlfriend who was already dancing with a cadet on the dance floor, so she tapped the shoulder of a nearby young cadet and asked him to dance her to her friend. Retrieving her pass, she thanked him and walked away, but he chose to follow her and make his acquaintance, and what was to become a lifelong union in marriage. At the end of World War II, Lloyd W Krumrey returned to the states after eight months as a POW in Germany, and with permission from Ruth's parents, they were married on September 1, 1945 in Delray Beach, Florida, witnessed by Ruth's beloved brother Jacob Fullilove and his wife Margo Fullilove. Lloyd and Ruth Krumrey were blessed with over seventy three years of marriage. Sept 1, 2019 would have been their 74th wedding anniversary.

Ruth and her husband, Lloyd, settled in Corpus Christi in 1949 where he practiced accounting as a CPA and she managed the business affairs of their office. Ruth volunteered in numerous civic organizations, often serving as treasurer for many civic clubs throughout the years. Ruth was an active member of her childrens' PTAs, The Seven Arts Study Club, The Corpus Christi Power Squadron, The Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, and The Daughters of the American Revolution (51 year member), the Corpus Christi CPA Wives Club and a member of Padre Island Garden Club. Ruth was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1951 and a longtime member of the Mary Martha Circle (LWML). Ruth had a keen interest in genealogy, the fine arts and antiques and spoke often of her time she volunteered as a docent at the Corpus Christi Art Museum. Ruth and Lloyd were active bridge players with a cherished group of friends for nearly 70 years. She traveled extensively across the country exploring museums and national parks and historical homes. She supported her sons' activities in the Boy Scouts and at the time, became one of the few mothers in the nation to have four sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Ruth took pride in her garden club activities and she was instrumental in tree planting drives in many local parks such as those found today at Wilson Elementary School and Shea Parkway. Her activities in the 1960's, also helped shape the City of Corpus Christi ordinances requiring new commercial construction to dedicate part of their budgets for landscaping.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her aunts Melba Fullilove Maino, Irby Boone, Dorthea Dixon, her brother Jacob Foster Fullilove, her sisters Mary Shirley Cardwell, Elaine Blankenship, and Gennie V. Stackhouse, her son Lloyd Walter Krumrey, Jr. and his wife Jana Charland Krumrey.

Ruth is survived by her husband Lloyd Walter Krumrey, Sr., sons Kenneth Foster Krumrey, Michael Frederick Krumrey, and Christopher Guy Krumrey and his wife Marsha Foss Krumrey, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth G. Krumrey. She is additionally survived by her sister Barbara McMillan. Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren Michael Charland, Aimie C. Mills, Jennifer C.
