Obituary

Sam Ferris Jr., age 90, passed away June 15, 2021.He was born June 28, 1930 to Sam Ferris, Sr. and Martha Buhidar. He served in the United States Army in 1951-1953 and spent part of his tour in Germany. Sam married his wife Dee, of 65 years, on November 24, 1955.

Sam and his loving wife, Dee, started Sam’s Candyland in the early 1960’s. They enjoyed traveling together to candy shows all over the country. He was proud for his 9 children to work alongside him during their high school and college years.

He was considered by his friends as the “Candy Man.” Sam was known for his joke telling and enjoyed his Wednesday night poker with friends and cousins. He loved to fish but ultimately Sam was a “Fisher of Men” for Jesus.

Sam (Gido), will be remembered for his loving kindness, and concerns for others. Never did he hesitate to share the good news of Jesus Christ with every person he encountered including strangers with whom he loved to lead to the Lord!

Sam (Gido) loved to recite, “Jesus I trust in You” from the Divine Mercy Prayer Rosary that he prayed daily. He found strength and encouragement in God’s Word and lived out the mercy and love of our Heavenly Father!

He is survived by his wife, Dee, children, Jeanne (Steve), Sam (Lorrie), Rose, Michelle (Bill), Deanna (Robert), Julie (Jay), April, Monica (Blake), Andrea (Paul). He was a grandfather to 21 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 13.
