On July 18, 2020, Samuel William Horner, age 99 years, died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas, surrounded by family. Sam was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on December 26, 1920.
Always very proud to have served his country as a U.S. Marine, Sam served in the 4th Marine Division during World War II as a maker of maps that guided the Marine invasions of Iwo Jima and other Pacific Islands. After the war, he joined his father in operating the family oilfield supply business and worked there for 47 years. Sam also operated his own oil company until his death.
Always enthusiastic about life, Sam loved people, golf, work, and ice cream. He was an avid golfer, was quick to smile, and easily made friends. An eternal optimist, he was still taking golf lessons at age 90.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ann Horner, and daughter, Jann Horner. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Barbara Samuels Horner, sons Dr. Stephen (Peggy) and Dr. John (Jackie) Horner, grandson Nathan Horner, and stepsons Dr. Todd (Susie) and Greg Samuels, and stepdaughter Vicki Samuels Burke.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and precautions, there will be a small private funeral.
