Scott Christian Gates

Scott Christian Gates, 37 years old, passed away on March 17, 2020. He was born on January 23, 1983 in Okmulgee, OK. He was raised in both Arlington, TX and Cleburne, TX. Scott competed as an elite gymnast and received numerous accolades, including the state championship on the high bar. He graduated from Cleburne High School in 2001, where he served as a drum major for the high school band. Following high school, Scott attended Oklahoma State University and Tarrant County Junior College. He quickly realized his amazing ability to serve others and excelled in his career as a physical therapy technician.

Scott loved those who were often overlooked. His tender heart and desire to meet the needs of others was continually present in his friendships. Scott loved having face-to-face conversations and spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed exploring Chevrolet cars, cooking, building his tool collection, random TV shows, long drives, and various types of music. He had the amazing ability to listen to a song and then sit down and play it on the saxophone or guitar. Scott’s dog, Buddy, was his best friend and quickly became a beloved member of the Gates family.

Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Nadine Banwart (Dill City, OK), and his paternal grandparents, Leon and Lorine Gates (Tulsa, OK).

Scott is survived by his parents, Dr. Steven and Paula Gates (Corpus Christi, TX), sister Stephanie Gates and fiancé Randall Sloan (Denton, TX), and brother Jeffrey Gates, wife Courtney Kalbacker and their daughter Joanna (Baltimore, MD), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at Seaside Memorial Park on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at 1 pm.
