Dr. Sharon Louise Rogers passed away on November 21, 2017. Sharon is survived by her two daughters, son-in-law and granddaughter. Sharon’s eldest daughter, Dr. Laura Lynn Barlow is a graduate of Texas A&M University and Indiana University Purdue University and is married to Daniel Blake Barlow, they reside in Keller, Texas. Rebecca Anne Barlow, Daniel and Laura’s daughter and Sharon’s granddaughter is a student at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, and was the delight of her grandmother. Sharon’s youngest daughter, Susan Rogers is a graduate of the University of Houston and the University of California at Berkeley. She lives in Houston, Texas and is an Associate Professor of Architecture and the Director of Community Design Resource Center at the University of Houston. Dr. Sharon Rogers also leaves behind many friends and colleagues.

Dr. Rogers was born in Detroit, Michigan to Walter Konczal and Evelyn Casanova. Growing up surrounded by a family of Italian immigrants, she definitely became a colorful character. Sharon quickly excelled in both piano and academic studies. She attended Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1978. After relocating to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1979, Sharon received a Master’s degree in Psychology from Corpus Christi State University. She next attended Texas A&M University in College Station where in 1984 Sharon received a Ph.D. in Psychology. During her college days Sharon also lived as a rancher and sailor, once sailing with a crew to Belize and guiding the boat using a sextant to navigate by starlight.

Returning to Corpus Christi in 1985, Dr. Rogers opened a successful private practice in Corpus Christi, primarily working contracts from a variety of federal, state, and local agencies. Her love of continuing education never ceased. In 1993 Dr. Rogers earned her Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, a coveted title awarded by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). In 2005 she completed certification in Clinical Psychopharmacology through Texas A&M University. Dr. Rogers was also trained by Dr. Robert Hare and various retired agents from the FBI Behavioral Science Unit in understanding psychopathic behaviors. Through John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, Dr. Rogers presented papers in criminal justice issues in Bologna, Italy, Dublin, Ireland and St. Petersburg, Russia. Periodically she served as adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at Texas A&M University. In her private practice she had regular contact with Federal judges, courts, probation and parole. She also worked as a consultant to the A&E Network television program “Intervention”.

Over the years Dr. Rogers inspired staff and many students of psychology, providing a master’s degree practicum site through Texas A&M University. A most loving and forgiving individual, she helped many to become independent, strong and decisive individuals. She will be missed by so many, but would want others to celebrate her life with zeal.

Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Seaside Reid Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Seaside Reid Chapel. Entombment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
