Obituary

Sharon Kay Becton, age 79, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023, after battling dementia for several years and a recent second bout of cancer.  Sharon, known by her family as "Sug," was born on December 9, 1943, to George "Mutt" Smith and Tommie Faye Smith in Corpus Christi, TX.

Sharon grew up attending Gardendale Baptist Church and received Christ as her savior at the age of 9.  She always spoke fondly of Gardendale and loved the traditional gospel hymns.  Sharon was raised in Corpus Christi and graduated from West Oso High School in 1962.  She then attended Michael's Beauty College and received a certificate in Cosmetology.

Sharon married Michael Terrance Becton on February 28, 1964 and was married 39 years until his death in June 2003.  Sharon was briefly employed by Hazel's Beauty Salon from 1964-1965 when she became a full-time mom.  Beginning in the early 1970s, Sharon worked as a part-time beautician, having clients come to her home beauty shop. She taught Sunday School to youth girls at Annaville Baptist Church and enjoyed fellowshipping with the church members. In 1998, she took a job with the U. S. Fish & Wildlife as an administrative assistant and worked for approximately 15 years until she retired in 2013.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Becton, and her parents George T. Smith and Tommie Faye Smith.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Janetta Gotcher (Don); son James Becton (Michelle); brother Keith Smith (Diane); brother Charlie Smith (Lisa); granddaughter Krista Kovitch (Patrick); granddaughter Kayla Mann (Kurt Jr.); grandson Benjamin Becton; grandson Joshua Becton; granddaughter Tammi Gotcher; grandson Scott Gotcher; great-grandson Kurt Michael Mann; great-granddaughter Kenna Faye Mann; great-granddaughter Bonnie Kovitch; great-granddaughter Cora Vice; great-granddaughter Emma Vice; and several nieces and nephews.  Sharon was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
