Obituary

On November 21, 2021, Shirley Margaret Nieves peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad August 12, 1937.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Nieves and parents, Sage and Helen da Silva.

She spent her youth growing up in Trinidad until she married her husband, Robert James Nieves in 1960. She was a member of the Catholic Church, and attended St. Andrew by the Sea Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas for many years. She was very active in the church, and help with the annual church rummage sale. Shirley loved to play Bridge and was also an adept tennis player. She loved to compete in both Bridge and Tennis tournaments. She was very talented and gifted in arts & crafts. She had an amazing talent for painting and her works are loved and enjoyed by all of those she touched over the years. Her talents also included sewing, and she made many unique dresses and other apparel items for family.

She was the mother of 3 children: Anna Rogers (Jonathan), Mark Nieves (Jimi Jean) and Janis Riojas (Roy). She also loved and adored her grandchildren: Natasha Riojas, Daniella (Cody) Grimes, Christina Riojas, Allisha (Alex) Walter, Samantha Nieves and Brianna Nieves. She also has 5 great grandchildren.

Her husband was employed by Baker Hughes as an Oil Field Technician, which provided her the opportunity to live in numerous nations all over the world. Besides Trinidad, countries she and her family called home include Egypt, Peru, Ecuador, Singapore, Iran and Scotland. Shirley had a special affinity for Egypt and embraced a love for all things Egyptian her entire life.

We will celebrate Shirley’s life with a private memorial service on Friday, November 26, 2021.
