Obituary

Val Gene Chandonia, “Papa” to his grand and great grandchildren passed away on March 7, 2018 in his home of 17 years located in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was the first of four born to sweethearts Harvey and Lois Chandonia on June 2, 1945 in Kewanna, Indiana. His family later settled in South Bend, Indiana where he was raised and called home, attended Central High School from 9th to 11th grades and graduated from Penn High school in 1962. He would call the US Navy home as a Radar man 3 for the next 4 years during the Vietnam War from August 14, 1962 until receiving an honorable discharge on June 7, 1966. Val would later gain his Master of Business Administration from St. Edwards University in 2001. He married his friend, life partner, and spiritual companion, Ann Louise Griffin of 29 years on July 2, 1989. Val was blessed with his careers; 36 years in communications and 11 years as a trusted Insurance Agent. Val was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and Papa to so many.
Val enjoyed to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren really he enjoyed to “Spoil” them.
Val will always be remembered by his wife for his unwavering faithful devotion and dedication to their love and commitment, his love for playing the guitar in the famous “Jam Sessions”, excitement in finding the next fishing trip, love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his love for Christ Our Lord.

Wife Ann Louise Chandonia, Brother Steve Chandonia and 1 Child of Indiana, Brother Duane Chandonia and Wife Mari Luz their 3 Children of Florida, , Sister Gail Scobey and Husband Rick their 3 Children of Florida, Step-Son George Livsey and Wife Margarita their 4 Children and 9 Grandchildren of Texas, Step-Daughter Sheri Gruener and Husband Robert their 2 Children and 1 Grandchild of Texas, Daughter Valerie Dircks and Husband David their 7 Children and 6 Grandchildren of Indiana, Son Richard Chandonia and his 5 Children of New Mexico, Son Jon Gloster and Wife Amanda their 7 Children and 3 Grandchildren of Indiana, Son Jeremy Chandonia and Wife Virginia their 2 Children of Texas, Daughter Aimee Blocker and Husband Darin their 3 Children and 2 Grandchildren of Iowa, his youngest Son Justin Chandonia and his 4 Children of Iowa, and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday March 13, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive Corpus Christi, TX 78412. Funeral Service will be held at Padre Island Baptist Church, 14253 South Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas 78418 on Wednesday March 14, 2018 at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow immediately after the Service at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery Corpus Christi, Texas. Pallbearers will be Duane Chandonia, Steve Chandonia, George Livsey, Richard Chandonia, David Dircks, and Robert Gruener.
