Obituary

Weaver J. Mitchell, a man of faith, passed into eternal life on Saturday, April 7, 2018. He was 89 years old. In 1948 he married Irene Sevcik and together they raised their five wonderful, successful children. He was hard working and dedicated to being a good husband and father.
His first job was delivering papers on his bicycle at 12 years of age. Later it turned into a motor route. At 17, he won a college stipend to Del Mar College for being the best paper boy. At 18, he began working for Southwestern Oil & Refining Company/ Kerr McGee where he worked for 43 years. He started work as a yard hand and eventually worked in the lab, safety, inspection, chief operator in the CAT Cracker and ending as Superintendent of Operations. He was a member of the Refinery Terminal Fire Company. As the family grew he worked second jobs, such as fence salesman, carwash attendant and a A/C repairman. He was a jack of all trades. He worked on the family cars, built a 2 car garage and remodeled the inside of the house.
In 1955, Weaver organized the SWOR Federal Credit Union. He served on various Board positions and the Supervisory Committee. He also helped organize the DoCC Federal Credit Union, also serving on its Board. He was a Eucharistic Minister at Spohn Hospital and also a volunteer at Doctors Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the Fraternal Organization SPJST Lodge 79.
Weaver loved fishing from his boat in the gulf and also taking the children water skiing. He supplied our family with a lot of fresh fish. In later years he had a ranch and loved deer hunting and just being out in nature. He enjoyed having the grandchildren with him and riding around the ranch in the pick up at night. He also liked wood working.
