William “Bill” Robert Green Sr. was called home to the Lord August 21, 2019 after complications of Alzheimer’s disease in Corpus Christi, TX. Born November 6, 1932, the 5th of 13 children to CJ (Bob) and Edna Green in Perth, Kansas.
Bill married his loving wife, Carol Margaret Denys on April 19, 1954 in San Antonio and together they raised 7 children. They recently celebrated 65 years together as their love for each other grew each and every day.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters and his daughter Valerie Manns.
He is survived by the love of his life, Carol Green. Children Bill Green (GayLynn) of Waller TX, Robin Ciscell (Merle) of McGregor TX, Steve Green (Mona) of St Louis MO, Richard Green (Cyndi) of Boulder City NV, Nancy Hernandez (Danny) of New Braunfels TX, David Green of Albuquerque NM , 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who all loved him dearly.
After graduating from St Gregory’s High School in 1950, Bill attended St Mary’s University in San Antonio graduating in 1955 with a B.A in Marketing and was also commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army having served 4 years in the ROTC.
Bill served in the US Army from 1955-1956 and continued to serve his country in the Army Reserve for 28 ½ years. While at Ft Sam Houston, Bill wrote the newsletter, “Tough Hombre” for many years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Bill had a very successful insurance career from 1957 to 1987 working for Liberty Mutual, USAA and Aetna Life.
Bill and Carol spent the next 10 years traveling across 48 counties in south Texas as publishing reps for Hearst Publishing. In addition to this being a very enjoyable time for the two of them, they also received many awards and accolades.
Bill was an avid runner and ran four marathons, had a love for golf and working with his friends to revive the “Nina”, a replica of the Christopher Columbus ship.
Bill was devoted to the Rosary and recited it daily. His love for the Lord and all of his family was the core of his life.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated that same day. Burial to follow at Seaside Memorial Park, 4357 Ocean Drive Corpus Christi, TX 78412.
